On 12 March 2002, Renfe and Siemens set up NERTUS Mantenimiento Ferroviario, S.A. in order to provide comprehensive railway rolling stock maintenance services. The first partnership of its kind at the time. The creation of NERTUS makes best use of the synergies between Siemens as a train technologist and manufacturer and Renfe Integria, the Manufacturing and Maintenance division, as the Renfe industrial division specialising in railway rolling stock maintenance. NERTUS started its operations on 1 May 2002, in the maintenance centre that Renfe Integria has in Cornellá de Llobregat, a town located on the outskirts of Barcelona, maintaining 50 suburban network (447 Series) and Middle Distance (440 Series) trains.
Just four years later, and as a result of the good results obtained, NERTUS’ portfolio was extended to the maintenance of suburban trains in the CIVIA series (465 Series) in the Madrid, Zaragoza and Asturias networks.
In 2007, one of the milestones that marked the company’s development path was reached: NERTUS extended its business to the High-Speed field, undertaking the comprehensive maintenance of the 26 trains of the 103 series in the Santa Catalina (Madrid) and La Sagra (Toledo) workshops.
Continuing with our vocation for growth and innovation, in December 2010 NERTUS extended its corporate purpose to the maintenance of installations and equipment in the transport field in general, in order to break into new markets. In February 2011 the company name was adapted to the new business framework, being changed to NERTUS Mantenimiento Ferroviario y Servicios, S.A.
Today, with over 500 employees, our commitment continues to be to offer innovative maintenance and services of the utmost quality and efficiency.
The company’s shareholder distribution (51% Siemens Mobility S.L.U. and 49% Renfe Fabricación y Mantenimiento S.M.E.) is reflected in the Board of Directors, which comprises representatives of both companies.

The NERTUS logotype embodies our commitment to customer service, turning into “SU TREN” (your train) when read backwards. On the NERTUS logotype, the letters R and S stand out, embodying the corporate identity of the initials of the shareholding companies.
Today, thirteen years later and with more than 500 employees, our commitment remains to provide innovative maintenance and services, of high quality and efficiency. And we keep doing it thanks to our passion for transport.
